AMERICA/EL SALVADOR - No negotiating with gangs in the plan for National Security

San Salvador – The National Security Council in San Salvador decided on 30 July, to exclude any negotiation with gangs and to go forward to implement the plan based on the strategy El Salvador Sicuro, Fides was informed in a report by Hato Hasbún, presidential security commissioner. This position was ratified by auxiliary bishop of San Salvador, Mgr.Gregorio Rosa Chavez, as the representative of the local Catholic Church.
According to the government representative a possible source of funding for the plan could be a security tax and the Council will meet again on 10 August to define the mechanism for obtaining resources.
The Diplomatic Corps was also present at the Council. "We noted international interest to fund the El Salvador Sicuro plan, said auxiliary Bishop Rosa Chavez, remarking on one result of the Council meeting.
