El Salvador: Remittances Keep Growing

Between January and August 2017 the country received $3,283 million in remittances, 10% more than in the same period last year.
Revenues from family remittances reached $3,283.5 million in the period from January to August 2017, a 10.4% increase and exceeded by US $309.0 million remittances received in the same period in the previous year, according to data from Banco Central de Reserva. 
 
In August alone, $410.4 million was received in remittances, which is $30.4 million (8%) more than the amount recorded in the same month in 2016.
 
The Central Bank indicated that remittances from 149 countries around the world were received, US $3,067.3 million equivalent to 97.3% of the total was sent from the United States, US $28.1 million (0.9%) from Canada and US $27.3 million (0.9 ) from the European Union. 
 
On the other hand, the five departments with the highest remittances received in August 2017 were San Salvador (20.1%), San Miguel (12.5%), La Union (8.5%), Santa Ana (8.2%) and La Libertad (7.9%). 
 
Regarding the average amounts per operation, Chalatenango, with $341.3, had the highest value, while San Salvador with $219.5 had the lowest average per operation.
