More and More Motorcycles in El Salvador

Since 2010, the number of motorcycles in El Salvador grew by 150%, while the entire vehicle fleet as a whole grew by 30% in five years.

Motorcycles are the type of vehicle that is increasing more than any other on the streets of El Salvador. According to the Directorate of Public Registry of Motor Vehicles at the Vice Ministry of Transportation (VMT), the number of motorcycles or scooters reached 171,283 in 2015, which is 152.5% more than in 2010. 

According to a publication in Elmundo.sv, "... at the end of 2015, the vehicle fleet in El Salvador rose to 924,104 vehicles, with a growth of 29.63% since 2010, when 712,870 were recorded. Of that total, the department of San Salvador accounts for 41.45%. " 

"... The three departments with the highest number of cars are: La Libertad which counted 130 590, covering 14% of the total; Santa Ana, which has 75,887, 8.2% of the national fleet; and San Miguel, which has 71,081, 7.6% of the total ". 

The only segments that did not register growth were buses and minibuses (whether for public or private transport) whose presence was reduced by 4.3% and 2.2% respectively for the period 2010-2015.
