It has been announced that the company China Railway Company is studying whether it would be feasible to reactivate a passenger train service between San Salvador and the area of Sitio del Niño, in the municipality of San Juan Opico.

Authorities at the Executive Port Commission (CEPA) explained that the studies that had started during the previous administration with the Spanish company Tramrail have not been completed, and now it is the company China Railway Company which is analyzing the feasibility of the project.

Nelson Vanegas, director of CEPA, told Laprensagrafica.com at thet time that "... there was not a thorough technical study, the only thing there was was thick lines", in contrast, he mentioned that the study by the Chinese company does have the technical conditions required for the train: 'This is totally different, it is a very in depth study."

"...In 2015 the ECA decided to build a museum and amusement park on the premises of Ferrocarriles Nacionales de El Salvador. Another part of the facility was transferred to the company that manages the SITRAMSS to park their buses."
