El Salvador: Electricity Rates Down 18%

15 Jan 2016

The supervisory body announced that the reduction in electricity rates will be effective starting April 15th for users of the CAESS.
According to the General Superintendency of Electricity and Telecommunications (SIGET) of El Salvador, the fall in oil prices and an increase in the purchase of electricity from neighboring countries caused a reduction in the prices users pay for electricity.

Elsalvador.com reports that "... with this announcement, a residential bill from the company CAESS, not exceeding 99 kilowatt hours (KWH), will cost $15.61 without subsidy. Previously it was $18.31. The bill for users of between 100 and 250 KWH will shrink from $46.78 to $38.95. For those who use 500 kilowatts, the price will drop from $92.70 to $79.03. These figures apply to users of the CAESS ".

.According to estimates by the SIGET, this decline in prices has allowed small and medium consumers, of up to 250 KWH, to save up to $6.47 million. Large consumers saved up $32.81 million. "
