El Salvador: Agreement with Avianca on Airport Expansion

04 Sep 2015

The government could sign a cooperation agreement with the aerospace company for the project to expand the international terminal in San Salvador.

This is not the first time that representatives from the aviation sector have approached the government to propose the development of the Monseñor Romero airport , which is already operating above its capacity and limiting the development and growth of companies in the same sector and the country as an air hub for the airline Avianca.

"...The Vice President of the Republic and Commissioner for investment, Oscar Ortiz said yesterday during the opening of the extra-port works that talks with Avianca have advanced considerably. Ortiz emphasized that the results of the agreement with Aeroman have served as examples of public private partnerships which should be replicated. "We are on the point of signing an agreement with the same features as with Avianca '."

Elmundo.sv reports that "... The official said the ECA is currently working on infrastructure plans for the proposed expansion of the airport and also to specifically define the financing plan for the works. Vanegas did not rule out that the agreement with Avianca would provide resources for the expansion of the terminal, which is scheduled to start in early 2016."
