El Salvador: $149 million for Hospital Construction

An IADB loan will finance a 400-bed hospital in the department of San Salvador and another 100-bed facility in the northern zone of the same department.

The Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) has approved a loan of $170 million to strengthen El Salvador's hospital network. One of the projects to be developed with IDB funds is the construction, equipping and commissioning a 400-bed hospital, which will provide nationwide coverage.

The second project is the construction and equipping of a 100 bed hospital in the north of San Salvador. The IDB also reports that ".. coverage will be expanded for gynecology care in eight hospitals, covering more than 290,000 people."

The program ... "includes the implementation of 33 community units, the construction of 30 basic family health community units and the equipping of 32 existing ones. In addition two specialized Community Health units and eight intermediary units will also be built and equipped. In urban areas, an innovative model will be implemented in four cities with the construction and equipping of Reference Centers for specialized care. "
